History

The FNCI was established in October 2019 by the Leadership of the Lax Kw’alaams, Metlakatla, Nisga’a and Haisla First Nations to serve as a forum for collaboration in the fight against climate change and poverty in First Nation’s communities. Because the development of net zero LNG promises to be one of the most meaningful contributions BC can make in the fight against climate change and poverty, the FNCI focused its initial efforts on understanding the challenges and opportunities associated with the development of net zero LNG and other gas products. The Initiative moved on to development of critical aspects of climate change mitigation and poverty alleviation including conserving and restoring ecosystems and nature based climate solutions; development of renewable energy generation and transmission capacity, and manufacturing emission free Blue and Green Hydrogen.

FNCI is committed to collaborating with all relevant actors to develop a decarbonized future. Because this is not just about fighting climate change. It is also about ending poverty in First Nations communities.
